The time had come - Conor’s mandatory adjustment period was finally up.
Willow went to meet him at the Moonwood Collective house. It was a Saturday, so she left Skye with Flora - she wanted this reunion to be just the two of them. As it turned out, that was a good idea.
“Conor!”
Conor grinned at her, running over to hug her. “Willow! You came to see me?”
She smiled back at him, clinging on even after he let her go. “I came to pick you up.”
“Pick me up? Miss Doe, are you taking me on a date?”
“I’m taking you home! The kids are waiting, I left Flora to watch Skye.”
He frowned. “Wait, Willow… do you want me to move in with you?”
Her eyes widened. “I- I’m sorry, I guess I assumed… Do you not want to live with me?”
Conor shook his head. “No, no, I’d love to live with you! It’s just, I’ll be gone so much for work, and I really like it here, so I figured it would be easier if I just stayed with the pack when I’m in town.”
“You’re going to be gone for work?”
His eyes lit up. “Yeah, I lost my old job after I left without notice when Skye was born, but Kristopher pulled some strings and got me an even better one! I’m going to be doing archaeological research at sites of known werewolf activity.” He smiled. “The whole pack thinks the work I do is really important. It’s so nice to be supported.”
Willow frowned. “I guess it is important, but… I thought you wanted to be here to watch Skye grow up. You’ve already missed so much…”
“I’ll visit her when I’m here, but I don’t want to disrupt her life too much by constantly being in and out of your house.”
At that, Willow finally lost the temper she’d spent so long learning to control. “What about disrupting my life?”
“What do you mean?”
“We used to say we’d travel the world together one day. When that day came, you set off while I stayed at home.”
“You chose that! You chose to stay for Felix and Flora! I wanted you to come with me!”
“I chose not to abandon a child who needed me! Two children who needed me, if you count Felix! And then everyone else left, and I still had to stay. And you came back, only to leave again. I had your child, I left my hometown, I left my family for you! And now, there’s not just a child that needs me, there’s a child that needs you, too, and you’re leaving again!”
“I shouldn’t have to give up my dream just because you gave up yours!”
Willow took a step back and stared at him in disgust. “What am I to you, Conor?”
“You’re my girlfriend.”
“Do you know how old Flora is?”
He shrugged. “I don’t know, 7? 8? Why are you bringing this up all of a sudden?”
“She’s almost 13, and we’ve been dating since before she was born. I am your girlfriend of more than 10 years, who almost died having your child, and you’re not willing to move in with me because the responsibility of having to occasionally look at your own child would be too much for you.”
“I never said that!”
“No, but you meant it, didn’t you?”
“I just don’t want to impose on you when I’ll be gone most of the time.”
“You don’t want my family imposing on your freedom, is what you don’t want.” She rolled her eyes. “You’re 30 years old, Conor. Grow up.”
“Hey, I never asked for any of this! I’ve stuck with you through everything, and-”
“You call what you’ve done sticking with me? You’ve never once been there when I needed you! Where were you when Flora was crying, asking me why her parents didn’t want her anymore? Where were you when Skye had a fever and I had to take her to the emergency room in the middle of the night? Where were you when I was in early labor, bleeding out on the floor, and there was no one else in the house? I thought I was going to die, and Flora would find me when she got home from school! And you! Weren’t! There!”
Willow took a deep, shuddering breath. She suddenly realized that she was crying.
Conor was quiet. Finally he said, “I’m sorry.”
She shook her head. “Forget it. I’m done with you. Let me know when you want to see Skye.”
And with that, she turned around and went back home to the people who loved her.
Author's Note: So... that's that. Willow's rolls are:
Family Structure: Single Parent
Number of Children: 2
Primary Income: Professional Sports
Generational Goal: Awesome!
Miscellaneous Fun: Fighter
I''ve probably updated the Rolls and Traits page by the time you're reading this. My Awesome! goal was to master the martial arts tournament, which did get achieved while we were still in Sims 3. Willow has been moved over to the Sims 4 professional sports career, although I don't anticipate her going particularly far in it - she's mostly been child-rearing in the game. Willow will appear here and there in the children's stories in the future, but this was the last chapter that was really all about her. Next time: Flora becomes a teenager!
